I wanted to find a Christmas Retreat for my 9 year old daughter so she could see snow. I googled pre-depression era resorts. My results showed the bulk of them west of the Mississippi. The Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing, New York is by far the neatest place I have ever visited. As you drive in along the snow banks and across the bridge over Lake George you crest the corner to see the stately mansion that is Sagamore. I never had the opportunity to go to the Borscht Belt but in my fantasies this has got to be as close as it gets.
We were greeted at the door by Steve the senior support staff member. He was courteous and indispensable during our 4 night stay. One word of warning. This area closes up tight in the winter and very few outside restaurants are open but for the sheer beauty of it all, this is by far my greatest destination
